Commissioned for the Wales Pavilion at the Venice Bienalle in 2003. Rooted in the darkness of the south Wales valleys Seawright gazes out toward the isolated communities of these urban communities established during the industrial revolution, dependant on coal mining and deviated by the decline of heavy industry in the 1980's. The unearthly glow returns us to the past where the light of furnaces lit the night sky. The artificial glow is sustained in the by the red light cast into the ether by urban street lights. We are caught between nature and culture between what we knew and what we long for.
